ERP is supporting Harrow Council and West London Waste Authority (WLWA) with an important pilot scheme to collect unwanted waste electricals from homes in four Harrow wards. The collection scheme began in June 2018 and will run through to November 2018.

On average, each person in the UK buys three new electrical items every year – that’s about 170 million items across the UK. However, only a small number of the electrical items already in the home, whether they’re broken or just unwanted, are recycled. Many of us are not aware that items such as irons, toasters and mobile phones can be recycled so they sit unused in a cupboard or drawer, or are simply thrown in the bin. The scheme is being introduced to 11,000 households across four wards in Harrow to increase the amount of small WEEE that is recycled.

To complement the pilot scheme, Harrow Council, WLWA and ERP are also running a social media campaign across all platforms to encourage residents to recycle their unwanted electrical items. The campaign will raise awareness of the importance of WEEE recycling, and especially the valuable resources in hoarded WEEE, which many residents may have accumulated. To help the environment, increase Harrow’s recycling rates and produce cost savings for the council, we want to recycle as much electrical equipment as possible.
